Isis Tomb

Now lost, the so-called "Isis Tomb" was excavated at Vulci in the 19th century. Based on finds evidence, the tomb is traditionally dated ca. 625 to 550 B.C. Its traditionally assigned name is likely a misnomer, based on a contemporary identification of a bronze bust as representing the Egyptian goddess Isis. The subsequent back-filling of the tomb and uncareful recording at the time have caused the tomb's location to be lost to us.

Kaleköy

Kaleköy is a modern village situated ca. 15 km northeast of Mazgirt and ca. 90 km to the north-northeast of Elaziğ in the southeast of Turkey. In the cliff face above the village, lies an Urartian rock-cut tomb. At the left of its entrance is a rock-cut inscription of the Urartian king Rusa, son of Argišti II (seventh century BCE) (CTU I A 12-6). Nowadays the inscription is heavily damaged.

A Bronze Age settlement located near Salemi, Sicily. The site has multiple settlement phases, including the Medival ruins referred to as the Castello di Mokarta. A combination of excavation and geophysical prospection has revealed the remains of Bronze Age settlement atop the plateau as well as evidence for outlying necropoleis.

The so-called Temple of Venus and Cupid at Rome is part of the complex of buildings associated with the Sessorian palace. The structure's modern assignation is owed to the discovery of a fragmentary statue of Sallustia Orbiana in the guise of Venus Felix. Sallustia Orbiana was the wife of Alexander Severus. The statue is now held in the Museo Pio Clementino in the Vatican Museums.

Edremit

Edremit is a modern settlement and associated administrative region in the Van Province in the southeast of Turkey. In the vicinity, several inscriptions on rock and stone of the Urartian king Minua (9th / 8th century BCE) have been found which report the construction of the 'Canal of Minua'. In Greek and Roman times, Ptolemy gives the name "Artemita" for a settlement that modern scholars believe was located at Edremit.

Habıbuşağı (İzoli)

Habıbuşağı (İzoli) was an Urartian fortress situated near Kömürhan, at the left shore of the river Euphrates in the Elazığ Province of eastern Turkey. Today it is covered by the reservoir behind the Karakaya dam. Habıbuşağı is best known on account of a rock inscription of the Urartian king Sarduri II, son of Argišti (eighth century BCE) which reports the expedition of Sarduri to this region. Habıbuşağı is, in fact, the westernmost known fortress of the Urartian kingdom.

Hadrian's Wall or Vallum Aelium was the first of two Roman fortifications built across northern Britannia. The project was begun in A.D. 122 and the works eventually stretched from the River Tyne near the North Sea to the Solway Firth on the Irish Sea. Iathrippa

Iathrippa was an oasis settlement along the Incense Road. From the Roman period until the advent of Islam the site was the seat of influential Iudaeo-Arabian tribes. Iathrippa would become an important center of Islam. Muhammad fled here from Mecca in 622 and the site was renamed Al-Madīna. It remained a key center until 656. It is the site of Muhammad's grave and a place of Muslim pilgrimage.

Isis Tomb

Now lost, the so-called "Isis Tomb" was excavated at Vulci in the 19th century. Based on finds evidence, the tomb is traditionally dated ca. 625 to 550 B.C. Its traditionally assigned name is likely a misnomer, based on a contemporary identification of a bronze bust as representing the Egyptian goddess Isis. The subsequent back-filling of the tomb and uncareful recording at the time have caused the tomb's location to be lost to us.

Kaleköy

Kaleköy is a modern village situated ca. 15 km northeast of Mazgirt and ca. 90 km to the north-northeast of Elaziğ in the southeast of Turkey. In the cliff face above the village, lies an Urartian rock-cut tomb. At the left of its entrance is a rock-cut inscription of the Urartian king Rusa, son of Argišti II (seventh century BCE) (CTU I A 12-6). Nowadays the inscription is heavily damaged.

Razliq

Razliq is a village situated ca. 13 km north of the city Sarāb in Eastern Azerbaijan (Iran). Here a rock inscription of the Urartian king Argišti II, son of Rusa (end of 8th / first half of 7th century BCE), has been found which reports military campaigns of Argišti II to this region. As well as the rock inscription of Nashteban (CTU A 11-5) it is situated on the southern slope of the Sabalān Mountains at an altitude of 4810 m. Although the inscription reports the building of a fortress named ‘stronghold of Argišti’ no such archaeological remains have been discovered so far. Together with the rock inscriptions found in Nashteban (CTU A 11-5) and Shisheh (CTU A 11-6) the rock inscription found near Razliq is one of the Urartian inscriptions found furthest to the east.

Sais

Sais was an ancient Egyptian town located in the Western Nile Delta on the Canopic branch of the Nile river. It served as the provincial capital of Sap-Meh, the fifth nome of Lower Egypt, and became a capital during the Twenty-fourth Dynasty (ca. 732–720 BC) as well as during the Late Period. Herodotus claimed that Osiris was buried at Sais. Other Greek authors, including Plato, maintained a connection between Sais and the goddess Athena.

So-called East Church in Apollonia

A Christian church located in the ancient city of Apollonia (Cyrenaica) built approximately in the fifth century A.D., probably on earlier Hellenistic foundations. The site was excavated in 1922 and shows a three-aisled nave with transept at the eastern end, and a single apse. Traces of the mosaic floor are still visible.

So-called Tempio di Venere e Cupido

The so-called Temple of Venus and Cupid at Rome is part of the complex of buildings associated with the Sessorian palace. The structure's modern assignation is owed to the discovery of a fragmentary statue of Sallustia Orbiana in the guise of Venus Felix. Sallustia Orbiana was the wife of Alexander Severus. The statue is now held in the Museo Pio Clementino in the Vatican Museums.

Zivistan/Elmalık

Elmalık (formerly Zivistan, Zewestan) is a village in the Van Province in the southeast of Turkey ca. 12 km to the south of Van. Two small Urartian fortress have been found in the immediate vicinity, which are known as Aşağı Zivistan Kalesi ("Lower Zivistan Castle") and Yukarı Zivistan Kalesi ("Upper Zivistan Castle"). On the basis of several Urartian stone inscriptions of the Urartian king Išpuini (9th century BCE) (CTU I A 2-2 - A 2-4) and one rock inscription of the same king (CTU I A 2-5), both fortresses can be dated to the the reign of the Urartian king Išpuini (9th century BCE).
