Situated along the ancient VIa Aurelia, Cencelle occupies a defensible hill positioned between the Melledra and Mignone rivers. The site chosen for the Medieval city likely occupies the former site of an Etruscan oppidum.

Adab

Bismaya, ancient Adab, is a major archaeological mound in southern Iraq. The site is located in the present-day Wāsiṭ Province about 65 kilometres south of al-Kūt. Excavations by E.J. Banks from 1903-05 uncovered extensive remains of the ancient city of Adab, predominantly dating to the 3rd and early 2nd millennium BCE. In its day, Adab was renowned especially for its temple, the Emaẖ, dedicated to the goddess Ninẖursag.

Centum Cellae (modern Civitavecchia) was an ancient coastal settlement in Tyrrhenian Etruria. The emperor Trajan re-builds the harbor at the site in 106/7 and Pliny the Younger mentions its name, Centum Cellae. Saracens destroyed the city in A.D. 812.

Nērebtum

Nērebtum is a medium-sized Bronze Age settlement located east of Baghdad on the left bank of the Diyala river. Nērebtum was inhabited from the third to the early second millennium BCE. Excavations at the site by the University of Chicago from 1934 to 1936 exposed two extensive temple structures, one dedicated to the moon god Sîn, another to the goddess Ištar-Kititum, along with extensive fortification walls and private houses.

Pašime

Pašime is an ancient settlement located at Tall Abū Šījah, an archaeological site in the Maysan province of southeastern Iraq, close to the Iranian border. The site was inhabited perhaps already from the fourth millennium BCE, and particularly in the third and early second millennium BCE. The name Pašime appears in an Old Akkadian inscription discovered at the site in the course of excavations by the Iraq State Board of Antiquities and Heritage in 2007. The inscription was dedicated to the god Šuda, indicating that a temple devoted to this deity may have been located at Pašime.

During the Iron Age, an Oenotrian settlement flourished here, one that developed into an important sanctuary. The site passed into Greek control in the later seventh century B.C. and was eventually abandoned following the Bruttian conquest of the region during the fourth century B.C.
